The annual RuMSS conference in Moscow brought together representatives of the Ministry of Health, neurologists, medicines-access specialists, non-profit organisations and regional patient groups. The three-day meeting focused on a comprehensive approach to diagnosis, treatment and support for people with MS and other demyelinating conditions.
RuMSS President Yan Vlasov emphasised the role of patient organisations in identifying unmet needs and putting forward proposals for earlier diagnosis and access to innovative treatment. Speakers also discussed updated clinical recommendations and the need for better patient pathways, specialist training and dedicated centres.
The international discussion included Lydia Makaroff of the Multiple Sclerosis International Federation, who addressed inequalities in access to diagnosis, treatment, care and employment.
Two days of practical training for regional branches covered digital platforms, artificial intelligence in non-profit work, legal aspects of patient support and clinical referral pathways. The conference report also described the patient movement's work with people affected by other demyelinating and autoimmune conditions.
