On 26 May 2022, RuMSS convened public experts and patient-movement leaders in Moscow as part of its annual “Multiple Sclerosis: A New Context” conference.
The meeting examined the development of patient advocacy in the regions, barriers to its work and possible solutions. Participants discussed the need for trained advocates who understand patient rights and can maintain constructive dialogue with regional authorities and healthcare professionals.
Yan Vlasov described an uneven distribution of trained experts between regions. Leaders working in rheumatology, rare diseases, oncology and haemophilia were also involved in discussing these shared challenges.
RuMSS's training programme covered protecting patient rights, working with patients, improving non-profit organisations and developing personal and professional skills. The conference programme continued with a plenary session and international participation.
