At the third international BIOPROM forum in Gelendzhik, Russian Patients Union co-chair Yan Vlasov discussed the gap between the registration of an innovative medicine and patients being able to receive it.
He noted that updates to clinical guidelines, the list of vital and essential medicines and the state healthcare guarantees programme can follow different timetables. A medicine may complete the necessary assessments while the funding mechanism for its use is still unavailable.
The Union proposes coordinating these processes and allowing targeted updates to clinical guidelines without waiting for a complete revision. Vlasov also argued that accelerated registration for particularly important medicines should be accompanied by faster consideration of funding and reimbursement.
According to the publication, the Union has analysed the regulatory framework and prepared proposals to align these processes. The proposals concern reducing administrative delays after medicines have passed the relevant procedures.
