The Russian Multiple Sclerosis Society (RuMSS) is a national patient organisation representing people with multiple sclerosis and their families. It was established in 2001 at a congress of representatives from 48 regions of Russia.

Our mission

RuMSS works to improve quality of life by bringing together patients, public authorities, healthcare professionals, businesses and community partners. Its principles include concern for each person, openness to partnership, specialist knowledge and competence.

What we do

  • Develop and support the patient community and regional organisations.
  • Improve access to medical care, social support and rehabilitation.
  • Protect patient and family rights through advocacy and participation in healthcare policy.
  • Support professional education and public understanding of MS.
  • Work with partners on medicines, equipment and rehabilitation resources.
  • Train public experts and strengthen dialogue between patients and healthcare authorities.

Experience and cooperation

The organisation's official profile records more than 340 international, national and interregional conferences, over 120 scientific and educational publications, and more than 120 grant-funded projects. It also describes participation in the development of specialist neurological and rehabilitation services.

RuMSS works with regional patient organisations and is one of the key organisations in the Russian Patients Union. Conferences, training programmes and public-expert initiatives provide opportunities to share experience and address barriers to care.

International participation

RuMSS received special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council in July 2012. The official website also publishes documents concerning its historical participation in the European Multiple Sclerosis Platform and the Multiple Sclerosis International Federation.
